Overview
The Losi Promoto-MX is not the first scale RC motorcycle to ever come onto the market. But it’s the first ever to accurately capture the full experience – and pure fun – of riding a real motorcycle. It is the long-awaited dream of RC hobbyists and motocross fans alike.
The Promoto-MX’s unparalleled faithfulness to the model doesn’t stop with its appearance – the narrow frame, the driver figure design and the officially licensed decals. What’s even more impressive is how the real driving performance of a motocross is implemented. The breakthrough came from the combination of mechanical and electronic support that was developed specifically for the Promoto-MX. The way these technologies work together makes the difference.
The Promoto MX electronics include a 2700 kV motor and a steel flywheel, both mounted in the center of the frame. The engine spins the flywheel at over 22,000 rpm, creating unprecedented stability through gyroscopic force. Meanwhile, the patent-pending Spektrum MS6X technology accepts your control inputs from the DX3PM transmitter and gives the Promoto-MX the appropriate commands to execute leans, turns and wheelies with unparalleled balance and finesse.
The mechanics in the bike are just as impressive. Losi’s development team studied the suspension geometry of a full-size motorcycle to give the Promoto-MX the same off-road capability. A progressively suspended rear wheel swing arm ensures excellent grip and prevents bottoming out after jumps. The all-new front fork design with internal spring and damper can be tuned by replacing the silicone damper oil and also allows for ride height adjustment. An innovative front and rear brake system gives the bike impressive stopping power and shortens the braking distance by half compared to the rear brake alone.
The combination of electronic and mechanical support allows the Promoto-MX to perform better at high and low speeds than any other RC motorcycle before. For motocross fans, the “feel” of the Promoto-MX will be immediately familiar. RC car enthusiasts will discover a new way of driving that won’t let them go – taking banked turns, flying over the washboard, pulling wheelies and kicking up dust .
Finally. An RC motocross that really works! Anytime, anywhere, just grab your Losi Promoto-MX, hit the track, choose your line and become one with the bike!
PATENT PENDING SPECTRUM MS6X TECHNOLOGY
The new Spektrum DX3PM transmitter and SR6300PM receiver, combined with patent-pending MS6X technology, provide unparalleled control. Promoto MX riders can maintain balance at high or low speeds, as well as during jumps and rattles over the washboard, then use simple steering commands to take tight, banked turns and straighten up on the way to the next rhythm section. For more aggressive riding, use the MS6X button to increase the lean angle.
ON THE FLY DRIVING MODES
The DX3PM has three pre-programmed riding modes that you can switch between on the fly with your thumb on the A/B switch.
- Dirt Mode – Allows the Promoto-MX to line up adequately when approaching jumps and obstacles, but helps prevent “wheelie-overs” by intuitively reducing the throttle if the bike climbs too much.
- Street Mode – Detects when the Promoto-MX begins to climb, quickly eases off the throttle and brings the front tire back to the ground to accelerate as quickly as possible.
- Wheelie Control Mode – Give it your all! With Wheelie Control you can hold wheelies on smooth surfaces up to top speed.
SMART TECHNOLOGY
How much battery life does your bike have left? You don’t have to guess. LED displays on the DX3PM transmitter show you the remaining capacity of your Spektrum Smart batteries at a glance! Using Spektrum Smart technology, the Promoto-MX transmits important performance data while driving. Smart technology also simplifies battery charging. When you connect the included smart battery to a Spektrum smart charger, the battery’s individual charging parameters are automatically uploaded from its memory microchip to the smart charger via the IC connector’s data line. The safe charging process begins automatically! (Upgrading to the Spektrum DX5C or DX5 Pro transmitter allows you to receive additional real-time telemetry information, such as speed, RPM, power consumption, controller temperature and more.)
FLYWHEEL UNIT
The gyroscopic stabilization force generated by the heavy steel flywheel rotating at over 22,000 rpm with the 2700 kV motor has a positive effect on the stability of the motorcycle. The flywheel unit is mounted as low and forward in the frame as possible, allowing the Promoto-MX to rotate around its center point to improve jumps, changes of direction and the bike’s accurate power delivery.
CRASH PADS
Don’t worry if the front tire slips on loose dirt. The crash pads are ready to intercept the Promoto-MX. They prevent the bike from exceeding its maximum lean angle and help you come out of the curve upright again. The crash pad bars have adjustable stops so you can adjust the bike for any surface and grip level. They often also help you right yourself after a crash if the rear tire still has traction. If the bike is on the track, simply pull the throttle to right it and continue your race.
SERVO SAVER
The servo saver’s stiff circular springs, supported by composite plates, provide smooth steering with enough give to protect the servo. But that’s not all. It also significantly improves the bike’s performance when doing wheelies, landing jumps, powersliding through corners and pushing the front tire over ruts. It gives way so the bike stays in the race.
HEAD DAMPENING
When 3.6kg are racing around the track at high speed, a fairly stiff servo saver spring is required to guide the Promoto-MX safely into the next corner. As with anything that has a strong spring, the best way to control a strong spring is to dampen the movement. An important development of the Promoto-MX is a fluid-filled damper chamber between the upper and lower steering head bearings. The chamber is filled with 500,000cSt, which provides good damping properties for the servo saver and also helps control possible “handlebar flutter”.

NARROW FRAME
To ensure the true-to-life look, the motorcycle’s electronics and battery had to fit into a compact, narrow chassis. The need for a dedicated “shorty” battery would have simplified the design task, but the Promoto-MX development team wanted to use a convenient, standard-sized battery. Mission successful! A full-size 2S hardcase LiPo fits under the driver’s seat and is lightweight for quick battery replacement Accessible. Grab a charged battery pack and you’ll be back dominating the competition in seconds.
REALISTIC DRIVER FIGURE
Complete with boots, motocross helmet and protective gear, the rider figure is just as ready for motocross action as you are – for jumps, wheelies, banked turns and sending mud flying! The driver figures of other RC motorcycles are usually made entirely of foam, which breaks quickly. The Promoto MX driver figure has a rubberized plastic exterior that yields and is flexible in the event of impacts and rollovers. To prevent the rider from wobbling on the bike, the torso is provided with a foam insert. This ensures that the body sits firmly during normal operation, but is still able to give way in the event of impact.
OFFICIALLY LICENSED DUNLOP GEOMAX MX53 tires
As every real motocross rider would want, the Promoto-MX is equipped with the most popular Dunlop dirt bike tire profile, the Geomax MX53. They are officially licensed by Dunlop for their fidelity and performance. The MX53 impresses on real motorcycle routes all over the world and also ensures high grip and a long tire life on the Promoto-MX.
REAL SPOKE WHEELS
The realistic, real spoked wheels are another first on the Promoto-MX. No other RC manufacturer has been able to produce good looking wire wheels with the durability required for motocross. Achieving this required the determination and expertise of the Losi developers.
OFFICIALLY LICENSED TEAM PRO CIRCUIT DESIGN
Losi has teamed up with the highly successful Supercross racing team Pro Circuit to create the officially licensed graphics for the Promoto-MX. Since 1991, Pro Circuit has been the strongest and most consistent team on the AMA Supercross circuit. From the initial grid to today, over 50 riders have raced for the Pro Circuit racing team, collectively earning an impressive 31 AMA championships and six MXoN victories.
DISPLAY/MAINTENANCE & STARTING STANDS
Working on a real motocross is easier with a proper motorcycle repair stand. So Promoto-MX had to have one too! The included stand for maintenance and as a display is modeled on a real motorcycle repair stand and is completely decorated. To keep the bike balanced on the stand, the Promoto-MX can be snapped into the assembly stand. To take it a step further, a launch stand is also included for a hands-free launch. This starting stand supports the rear tire and keeps the bike upright and ready for a straight-out-of-the-gate start.
DETAILED FAIRING PARTS
Big or small, no motocross would look good without a properly decaled fairing kit. The Promoto-MX has everything – front mudguard, number plate, fork protectors, front side fairing, rear side fairing and a rear mudguard – everything comes freshly packaged with officially licensed vinyl decal – but extremely durable.
REALISTIC DETAILS
Even small details are important, and Losi didn’t miss a thing. Brake and clutch levers, exhaust, brake lines, footrests, brake discs, you name it – everything on the Promoto-MX has been thought through down to the smallest detail.
FRONT CRASH STRUCTURE
There’s nothing better than jumping for a massive three-pointer, but what happens when you come up short? Bending the fork tubes or fork tubes was not an option – so the Promoto-MX development team found a solution. The front crash structure is rigid during normal driving, but can be compressed until the front tire hits the frame to absorb the massive front impact forces. This protects the fork from bending and ensures that it remains safe and stable.
REAR FENDER
Wheelies happen. A normal, rigidly mounted rear fender would be able to withstand a lot. But the Promoto-MX offers a better solution – a folding, spring-loaded rear fender that can give way during wheelies to reveal a sturdy nylon rear bumper. This significantly increases the durability of the rear fender.
SKID PLATES & VENTILATION
Composite skid plates protect the front and bottom of the Promoto MX frame. They offer protection in the event of a crash, ensure that no sand can penetrate the chassis and thus help protect the electronics mounted inside. The ventilation slots on each side of the bike are closed when delivered, but can be opened to provide a cooling airflow in high ambient temperatures.
DOUBLE ALUMINUM PLATE CHASSIS
Double aluminum chassis plates house and protect all of the bike’s electronics and help give the Promoto-MX its realistic, slim look. They also give the frame the necessary rigidity and durability for hard impacts.
PROGRESSIVE REAR SUSPENSION
Just like a real motocross, the Promoto-MX features a progressive rear suspension. The suspension starts off soft, ensuring smooth handling and excellent grip. As the deflection increases, it becomes stronger to ensure the correct preload when jumping and to prevent bottoming out when landing. Equipped with an oil-filled shock absorber, the Promoto-MX is ready to perform on any surface.
FRONT FORK
The Promoto-MX front fork is a completely new and modern design with internal spring and damper. The fork tubes are designed to function similarly to regular RC shock absorbers and can be rebuilt and tuned by replacing the silicone damping fluid. Using opposing upper and lower springs, the ride height of the Promoto-MX can also be adjusted using spacers. And perhaps most importantly, the fork looks fantastic – just like the original.
STEERING HEAD ANGLE
After months of testing different trail settings, steering head angles and steering deflections, the Promoto-MX development team found the ideal value. A 62.4 degree steering head angle provides the best balance for handling bumps, landings, steering control and eliminating “handlebar flutter” on all surfaces.
BRUSHLESS DRIVE SYSTEM
The Promoto-MX comes straight out of the box with a powerful brushless Spektrum Smart drive system. Its 4-pole 3652-3800 kV motor provides plenty of power, while the brushless 85A controller provides the necessary control. With enough torque to jump big threes – and a massive top speed of over 64kmh with a 2S LiPo battery – the Promoto MX drive system packs a punch!
FRONT CABLE DISC BRAKE
Driving is even more fun with good brakes. The engine handles the rear wheel brake via the drive train, but as with the prototypes, most of the braking effect can be achieved via the front wheel. To brake the Promoto-MX at the front, a steel disc with brake pads and a brake caliper is used, which are actuated by a servo via a cable. This shortens the braking distance by half – so that you can hit the next corner perfectly.
SLIPPER CLUTCH – RACE INSPIRED
While the 3800kV company brushless motor puts out plenty of power, the Promoto-MX’s RACE-INSPIRED dual-disc slipper clutch ensures the Dunlop Geomax MX35 rear tire maintains traction on loose surfaces. The spring-loaded slipper clutch with two pads is based on the slipper clutches that the TLR team uses to win races around the world. This increases traction and protects the drive train without sacrificing explosive propulsion.
REALISTIC CHAIN DRIVE
We couldn’t call the Promoto-MX a motocross if it didn’t have a chain drive. Steel links and 70 roller pins surround a 10-tooth steel sprocket and a 36-tooth aluminum sprocket. Regardless of the conditions, the chain drive drives the rear tire efficiently and reliably.
READY TO RUN
The Losi Promoto-MX is delivered fully assembled. A high-quality Spektrum Smart remote control system is also included and the on-board electronics are already installed. A powerful Spektrum 2S LiPo battery, a convenient Smart USB charger and AA transmitter batteries are also included.
